Toyota Community Spirit Gallery July – Oct 2011 Title of work: “Sorrow to the shepherds, woe unto the birds” installation piece multi-paneled oil paintings, ceramic At this large group undergraduate show, Rowbury exhibited an assemblage titled 'Sorrow to the shepherds, woe unto the birds'. It comprised two ceramic cows alongside a three-paneled oil painting of the sky in fading twilight pink light and which the cows are part of (they are tinged with pink). The cows are looking at the sky and so are we; we are sharing in their gaze. The title for the piece comes from a poem by Shakespeare Like a red morn that ever yet betokened, Wreck to the seaman, tempest to the field, Sorrow to the shepherds, woe unto the birds, Gusts and foul flaws to herdmen and to herds The weather is all pervading in a rural setting and affects the daily lives of all living creatures |
