February 2011 Installation Ceramics, multi-panelled oil paintings Rowbury's first solo exhibition reveals an insight into her rural experience in the Otway Ranges, Victoria. It featured nine wall-mounted cow’s heads opposite two sets of multi-panelled oil paintings. The illusion of a pink light on the cows was created through coloured clay slips and engobes which created surface “skin” that lent the cows the delicacy of newborn calves. This same pink light was picked up in paintings that were hung across the room from the cows. A twilight mood was created within the intimate gallery space through dim spotlighting. |
